The Group Committee is a group of concerned adults, quite often parents of youth members, who want to be involved in Scouting but don’t want to be section leaders. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month, September to June starting at 7:30 and running about 90 minutes.
The Group Committee is essentially responsible for providing service and support to the section leaders and providing for Quality Programs on behalf of Scouts Canada. The Group Committee provides the administrative foundation for the section leaders to do their job.
Some of the things that we do include, ensuring the groups have adequate facilities and materials to run their programs, organize fundraising (popcorn sales, Apple Day, etc), approve group budgets and program plans, organize group events (Halloween Howl, Parent/Youth banquet, etc), maintain/obtain equipment needed by the groups and make sure the kids are having fun!
For information on how you can make a difference, big or small, talk to any Group Committee member or any Leader. It can be the best time and the most fun you've ever had!
